Four years later, friends and family look back at the fateful story in a special party for Daniel as he graduated from Subangdaku Elementary School in Cebu.

To celebrate Daniel’s achievements, McDonald’s Philippines, through its charity of choice, Ronald McDonald House of Charities (RMHC), treated him to a graduation party in McDonald’s North Reclamation, Cebu—the same branch where Daniel's photo was snapped by Joyce Torrefranca.

Torrefranca’s original post featuring Daniel first made its rounds on social media in June 2015 and has been picked up by local and international media shortly after.

The post inspired a lot of netizens and brought about outpouring support not only from local organizations but also from the international community.

Since learning about the heartwarming story of Daniel, RMHC has been supporting him by providing his different school needs such as allowance, supplies, and uniform.

“We are very happy for Daniel now that he has graduated elementary. We are pleased to be able to witness and be part of his story of hard work and dedication that continues to inspire many. We are excited to see Daniel reach more goals and are committed to support his education until he finishes Grade 12,” said Marie Angeles, RMHC executive director.

Daniel aspires to finish his studies with the goal of being a policeman someday. The Philippine National Police has also committed to support his college studies
