Coatings manufacturer Nippon Paint Philippines, Inc. has launched this year’s search for the Asia Young Designer Award.

Nippon Paint officials (from left) Hazel Gotan, Shara Lyra Castillo, Gladys Goh, Michael Franciso, and TJ Ng announce the launch of AYDA 2018.

Carrying the theme “FORWARD: Challenging Design Boundaries,” AYDA 2018 encourages architecture and interior design students to depart from their usual comfort zones. They are tasked to challenge the vernacular archetypes and present design boundaries so they can come up with more creative creations in a variety of ways possible.

The competition is open to architecture and interior design students (third year onwards). Each student is allowed to submit one entry. Deadline for submission of entries is on Sept. 28 at 10:00 p.m.

Criteria for judging in the Architecture category is Green and Sustainable Design Concept (20 percent), Design Innovation (25 percent), Color Concept (15 percent), Design Concept Statement (30 percent), and Critical and Forward Thinking (10 percent). For the Interior Design category, judging is based on Green and Sustainable Design Concept (15 percent), Design Innovation (30 percent), Color Concept (20 percent), Design Concept Statement (25 percent), and Critical and Forward Thinking (10 percent).

The Gold Award winner will get P50,000 in cash, a learning program abroad to compete against other Gold Awardees from 14 countries, and an all-expense paid learning experience at Harvard University Design Discovery for six weeks.
