Alexander Balutan, Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office general manager, on Thursday expressed his full support to President Rodrigo Duterte’s appointment of retired police general Anselmo Simeon Patron Pinili to chair the lottery agency’s board.

“I’m proud to say that General Pinili is my mistah [classmate] at the Philippine Military Academy ‘Matikas’ Class of 1983. The PCSO family welcomes his appointment,” Balutan said.

Duterte signed the appointment of Pinili on Jan. 15 to serve the unexpired term of office of erstwhile PCSO chairman Jose Jorge Elizalde Corpuz, which started July 1 last year and will end on June 30 this year.

Corpuz, a member of PMA Sandigan Class of 1982, resigned as chairman owing to health problems and pressure from his family, relatives and friends to stop working.

Together with Balutan, Corpuz led PCSO to greater heights. The agency posted almost P53 billion in revenue collections from the PCSO’s various lottery games in 2017, a record high in the history of the charitable agency.

Pinili was the head of the Office of the Special Envoy on Transnational Crime prior to his appointment at the PCSO.

He was given a Distinguished Service Medal for serving 35 years in the government, and awarded the PNP Special Service Medal for being the Deputy Regional Director for Administration for two years at the Police Regional Office 11.

During his term as the second high ranking officer of the Davao regional police, he initiated the peace talks between local communist rebels in the municipalities of Sto. Thomas, Davao del Norte and Pantukan, Compostela Valley.

He required a police blotter on every police mobile vehicle, which was aimed at bringing services to the doorstep of the people.

Pinili was known for his countless initiatives and roadmaps of upholding quality service to all police stations under PRO 11, being the chairman of Regional Strategy Management Unit 11. He also facilitated the construction of nine police stations throughout Davao region.

Meanwhile, Balutan thanked the President for his continued trust in his leadership and the institution.

“Expect a harmonious relationship with me and Pinili,” Balutan said. “It would just be like working with Jorge [Corpuz].”
