Palace gives PH athletes a pat on back

The Palace on Saturday expressed gratitude to athletes who raked in medals for the country in the ongoing 29th Southeast Asian Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

“Congratulations to all Filipino athletes who played and won in yesterday’s events in the Southeast Asian Games in Malaysia,” Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella said in a statement read over state-run radio dzRB.

As of August 26, the Philippines has won 15 gold, 21 silver, and 36 bronze medals.

The country bagged silver medals courtesy of Ruben Gonzales Jr. and Francis Casey Alcantara in Tennis’ Men’s Doubles; James Deiparine for Men’s Aquatic Swimming 100-meter Breaststroke; and Hazel Jagonoy, Rosita Bradborn, Vilma Greenless for Women’s Lawn Bowls—Triples.

Zion Rose Nelson, Kayla Anise Maico Richardson, Kyla Ashley Maico Richardson and Eloisa Luzon won a bronze medal in the Women’s Athletics 4×100-meter relay.

Eric Shauwn Cray, Anfernee Lopena, Archand Christian Bagsit, and Trenten Anthony Beram also won bronze medals for the Men’s Athletics 4×100-meter relay.

Other athletes who won bronze medal are Marestella Sunang in Women’s Athletics Field-Long Jump; Melvin Calano in Men’s Athletics Field-Javelin Throw; and Denise Dy and Katharina Lehnert in Tennis’ Women’s Doubles.

The Palace urged Filipinos to support our athletes participating in the biennial games.

“So, inaanyayahan natin ang ating mga kababayan na patuloy po tayong manood at suportahan ang ating mga atletang Pinoy,” the Palace said.
