The city government of Taguig on Tuesday named 10 private companies as its top taxpayers for 2016.

Team Energy Corp., Alveo Land Corp., BGNorth Properties Inc., Fort Bonifacio Development Corp., Metro Retail Stores Group Inc., Station Square East Commercial Corp., Makati Development Corp., BGSouth Properties Inc. and Samsung Electronics Phil. Corp made the list.

“This annual event is a tribute to you, our partners, and an opportunity for us to acknowledge your important role in developing our city. You are all instrumental in sustaining the city’s various socioeconomic and infrastructure programs,” said Mayor Laarni Cayetano.

Taguig aimed to create more opportunities for its citizens and to continue a great partnership in doing business with these investors through its business-friendly policies such as low tax rates, transparent and corruption-free environment, and the implementation of ease of doing business strategies like the annual Business One-Stop Shop and the cashless transactions of taxes and other fees.

“The city government will continue to improve peace and order, prepare our people through manpower and livelihood training, establish programs for job matching and create more opportunities through infrastructure projects in the year 2017,” Cayetano said.

Taguig City has been applying innovative programs in various sectors, principally on education and health. The Lifeline Assistance for Neighbors In-Need Scholarship Program offers free schooling and other educational assistance to students and their families.

Public school students also enjoy free school uniforms and school supplies, air-conditioned classrooms and even free prescription glasses.

“Because of this superb support for education, Taguig City is ranked No. 1 in the National Capital Region’s National Achievement Test for elementary and high school for two consecutive years,” said Cayetano.

The Taguig-Pateros District Hospital is also upgrading its equipment, and four Super Health Centers operate 24/7. The city also has the “Doctor on Call” program, which is designed for quick response to emergency calls or texts through hotline.

Taguig also received a Blue Certification Award by the Office of the Ombudsman for its streamlined frontline services, and was recognized by the Civil Service Commission for having the highest rating in the Anti-Red Tape Act compliance measures among 46 first-class cities.

A World Bank Ease of Doing Business study said Taguig is one of the best places in the country to do business in.
