Suiting up kids for travel

We all know how their traveling adventures have been the touchstone of Inspiration Seekers Char Carlos and Leona Panutat in selecting their wonderful artisanal finds at L’ Indochine stores.

With that, L’Indochine has become a store known for its eclectic modern Asian finds and interiors.  These include fashion items, furniture, and home accents, which are handmade by skilled craftsmen and local artisans from Sri Lanka, Thailand, Vietnam and other Asian countries.

Right now, C&L, as they like to be called, are also looking at local artists, designers, and artisans to bring in new products that L’Indochine customers will love.

The latest of this is Little Luli X My Little Globetrotters, a collection of stylish, functional pieces of clothes for babies and kids recently launched at the L’Indochine store at SM Megamall.

The brand brings together two young moms, Lucien Lao Villaruz and Monica Manzano, who both share C&L’s passion for traveling.   And when they are globetrotting with their kids, they like to let them play, explore and be adventurers.

Lucien is the founder of Little Luli, a line of comfortable, stylish and playful clothing for babies and kids. Most pieces are more understated and refreshingly simple but still chic. Monica, on the other hand, is known for her travel blog My Little Globetrotters, which documents her travels with her family.

Both hands-on moms, they have similar parenting styles, and prefer to take their kids everywhere with them.  And when they met, they decided to create clothes for “kids on the go,” clothes that would be stylish and comfortable for kids who want to feel at ease when at play.

C&L met Lucien at one of L’Indochine’s workshops.

“We’re big fans of her children’s line and when we found out that she was collaborating with Monica who is also a friend of ours for My Little Globetrotters we knew we wanted the collection at our stores right away,” they say. “Not only are the clothes beautifully made, but they are easy, stylish and absolutely perfect for traveling. These pieces are exactly what we need while toting our kids all over the world.”

Lucien loved the idea as “L’Indochine is known to house wonderful pieces curated by Leona and Char’s traveling experiences, and this is a perfect place to launch.”

For the collection, Lucien designed dresses that are reversible with two different looks – plain on one side and printed on the other. There are crop tops and pants sets so moms don’t need to dwell on what pieces would go together. For boys there are chambray shorts and super soft tees. Some pieces are in wash and wear fabrics, so no need for ironing.

The collection incorporates Little Luli’s brand philosophy – comfortable clothing with looser cuts that can grow with the kids, as well as details like big buttons, exposed zippers, pockets and tassels – with L’Indochine touches. The latter includes the use of tassels, floral prints, and of course, “the continuous passion to seek inspiration, where it may be in places we visit, our kids and families, or things around us that that may seem simple.”

“We find beauty in all things—big and small,” says Lucien.
