Sansó’s surrealist fabric designs transform into fashionable ensembles

The artistic legacy of Juvenal Sansó as an esteemed fabric designer is currently being exhibited at the FDM X SANSÓ show at the Fundacion Sansó in their San Juan City Gallery, which collaborated with the educators, industry experts, and students of the Fashion Design and Merchandising (FDM) Program of the De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde.

Though globally revered as a renowned painter, the artist was also a fabric designer, whose prints have donned the contemporary couture pieces of fashion giants including House of Balenciaga and Elsa Schiaparelli.

As a result, fashion students have transformed the signature surrealist artworks into eye-catching pieces of wearable art.

Among the standout students were Karl Lanz Andrei Valera, Christian Aaron De Chavez, and Joshua Mario Daryll Chiong, with their stunning designs.

Valera immortalized the abstract art experimentations in the silhouettes of a satin mermaid gown and a vibrant hat.

Meanwhile, De Chavez embodied the femininity and power that radiate in Sansó’s paintings in a classic LBD and high-neck top combo with intricate beading and pleating.

Chiong, on the other hand, married the sophistication of the 1950s Balenciaga and the Filipiniana terno in a green duchess dress complete with a fascinator, ostrich feather plumages, crystals, and rhinestones.

Fundacion Sansó is a non-profit organization established to preserve and promote the lauded artist.
