The ongoing NCAA Season 97 Men’s basketball showcases talents from all over the archipelago, and the Cebuano hunk Kendrick Abarquez from San Sebastian College-Recoletos is ready to see the action on the hardcourt.

The Marco Gumabao deadringer  was born on May 13, 2001 in Cebu City. The 6-foot-4 San Sebastian College-Recoletos student is now taking up BSBA-BM and playing as a power forward for the San Sebastian Golden Stags.

Asked about how he manages to balance his studies and sports, the 20-year-old cager admitted that it’s all about setting priorities and living by his mantra “play hard, study harder.”

“It’s always 50 percent basketball and 50 percent studies because basketball will not always be there. I need to finish my studies and for me to have a second plan in life,” says Kendrick.

His most unforgettable game was when he was in Leyte in a semifinals game and he got to block the winning shot of their opponent and passed it forward to his teammate and got the shot for the win.

He lists Michael Jordan and June Mar Fajardo as his basketball heroes.

“I like MJ because he is the greatest of all time (GOAT) and I like June Mar Fajardo because he is a humble player,” Kendrick explains.

Kendrik’s big goal is to play in a professional league but his ultimate ambition is “to be a successful man in the future and build a happy family and I also want to pay back or help my parents and live a financially stable life.”
