Through an online voting, the University of Santo Tomas Singers bagged the title “Choir of the World Champion of Champions.”
The competition, presented by the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod through its on-demand streaming service Llangollen.TV, featured performances of contestants in over 20 competitions in the festival. The music fest takes place annually during the second week of July in Llangollen, North Wales.
For the online voting poll for the “Choir of the World Champion of Champions,” the public chose the best choir from all the past 32 grand prize winners since the music festival’s inception in 1987.
Some of the countries represented in this competition were the United States, Germany, South Africa, Australia, Hungary, and Bulgaria. The voting period started from the first week of June until the second week of July, leading to the culmination of the festival.
The UST Singers, under the direction of its founder and conductor, Professor Fidel Gener Calalang Jr., won the highly coveted title twice in 1995 and 2010 making them the only choir in the competition’s history to achieve this astounding feat.
