Real-life couples on modern love

On some days, love rules; on other days, it sucks. The best way to understand it is to get insights from couples who share what real relationships are like.

As part of its Love Sucks, Love Rules promotions, Netflix sat down with three Pinoy celebrity couples: BJ Pascual and Mike Lavarez, Jim Bacarro and Saab Magalona, and Niko Del Rosario and Emmanuelle Vera, who candidly talked about the ups and downs of their own relationships.

“It doesn’t matter if it’s two guys, two girls, a guy and a girl,” said Mike. “It’s genuine. It’s true. It’s love.”

More than being an artistic and creative couple (BJ is a celebrity and fashion photographer, while Mike is a DJ and art director), they use their platforms to speak up about LGBTQ+ equality. They shared how their relationship has changed them for their better.

Musicians Jim and Saab chatted with the entertainment service about who made the first move and taking the leap from friendship to something so much more, which helped them see through struggles they face.

“My version of love is friendship,” shared Jim. “And then, ‘hey, can you be my friend when we raise another human being?’”

Newly engaged couple Niko and Emmanuelle might still be in the honeymoon phase, but they view relationships with wisdom that’s beyond their years. They shared how they got engaged and how they both handle the downsides that often come with love.

“Love is always so romanticized by everyone, but love is tough. It’s probably the biggest struggle you’ll ever go through in life, it’ll pose the biggest challenge you’ll ever face, but at the same time, it’s the most rewarding thing ever,” said Emmanuelle.
