In the Philippines, an estimated number of 4,500 children are born every year with cleft lip and cleft palate.

Operation Smile provides free surgeries for children and young adults born with cleft lip and cleft palate.

According to Operation Smile, an international medical service organization that has provided hundreds of thousands of free surgeries for children and young adults born with the condition, nine in 10 children born with it could die due to lack of access to safe surgery.

Since 2013, leading health and beauty retailer Watsons has been partnering with Operation Smile to give children born with cleft lip and cleft palate a chance to smile through free and safe surgeries.

This year, Watsons is committed to helping 400 children through its medical missions in Dumaguete, Iloilo, and Tacloban. From today until Dec. 26, shoppers can use their Watsons Card or SM Advantage Card points to donate.

ABOUT US

Manila Standard

Manila Standard website (manilastandard.net), launched in August 2002, extends the newspaper’s reach beyond its traditional readers and makes its brand of Philippine news and opinion available to a much wider and geographically diverse readership here and overseas.

Digital Edition

In tone and content, the online edition mirrors the editorial thrust of the newspaper. While hewing to the traditional precepts of fairness and objectivity, MS believes the news of the day need not be staid, overly long or dry. Stories are succinct, readable and written in a lively style that has become a hallmark of the newspaper.
