Zero gravity zone

I must admit that I’m one of those rare ladies who don’t watch Keeping Up with the Kardashians for the simple reason that I don’t see the point of it. But, a couple of years ago, I remember being able to catch an episode as I was baking a cake with a friend in her house, with the TV on and that show being aired. It was quite interesting since, if there was one thing in that episode that got stuck in my head, it was that the Kardashian sisters went to work out in a warehouse that was lined with trampolines from wall to wall. The way they jumped up and down as a form of workout seemed so fun, I kept wondering why we didn’t have it in Manila.

Well, wonder no more. Last week, the UK version of this fun, wonderful place just opened its doors in the center of the Metro, with an easy access from our main road that is EDSA. The moment I stepped into the 700-sqm space, the vibrant purple and yellow hues caught my attention and after watching that two-minute safety video, I started jumping.

Jumping on trampolines can burn up to 1200 calories an hour

Founders Shay Yellin and Mark Hogsden, and a few more business partners, decided to open Trampoline Park – Zero Gravity Zone because, aside from seeing the popularity it has in the UK, they wanted to open up a fitness place in Manila where friends and family can have fun socially while still having a great fitness session. According to Shay, he doesn’t see people smiling or having fun in the gym so he wanted to change that. Trampoline Park provides the same fitness benefits of toning up and losing weight, so why not do it with fun, right?

Because your vertical acceleration and deceleration is soaked up by the trampoline pad, which takes up over 80 percent of the shock, trampolining has low joint impact on your body

Some benefits of working out on a trampoline include the following: improves metabolism, strengthens cardiovascular health, improves balance, cleanses the lymphatic system, lessens joint impact, strengthens muscles and bones, and boosts our positive energy.

The Trampoline Park emphasizes on sports – having basketball slam-dunk competitions, volleyball and dodge ball tournaments and exciting DJ beats trampoline-dancing parties on their list of activities. There are also parkour, zumba and parkour sessions available plus a zone filled with foam blocks so you can try doing somersaults without injuring yourself. Safety is of utmost importance to them, that’s why aside from the two-minute safety video one must watch before the start of the session, they require you to wear non-slip socks and have additional padding all over the area, plus they have numerous staff watching over the jumpers. One can burn up to 1200 calories per hour jumping on trampolines – I was quite sweaty just after 40 minutes but I didn’t want to stop because I was having so much fun.

You can try to do somersaults without injuring yourself because the foam makes the landing very soft and safe

This park is open for everyone six years old and above, although Mark mentioned to me that even younger kids will have the chance to jump – in special kids classes, and with adult supervision (parents or guardians), of course.

I must say, with all these interesting new fitness places popping up, trampolines may just be the newest craze in town! I’ll be back for sure!

The Trampoline Park – Zero Gravity Zone is at The Portal, Mayflower St., Greenfield District, Mandaluyong City, Metro Manila. For more updates and information follow
