An easy way to comply with medication

For a condition that is fairly easy to manage, high cholesterol level unfortunately remains the major contributor to the cardiovascular mortality in Asia, according to the Philippine Council for Health Research and Development.

In many cases, making healthy lifestyle changes – eating better and exercising – is enough to lower cholesterol. But health experts strongly recommend taking in medication as well to better manage the condition. However, this is where many patients, especially the underprivileged, usually fail to comply.

Generic medicine company Pharex HealthCorp. offers 15-day Compliance Pouch for patients with high cholesterol level looking for cheaper medication alternative

“Most patients fail to follow their medication program because of the challenges that come with costs,” opines Pharex HealthCorp. president and chief executive Tomas Luke Marcelo Agana III.

In a bid to address this health concern, the generic medicine company has rolled out its 15-day Compliance Pouch that aims to help Filipino patients with high level of bad cholesterol improve their adherence to their management therapy.

The new 15-day Compliance Pouch for Cholesterol is designed for patients who have bad cholesterol or low-density lipoprotein. This type of cholesterol builds up in the walls of the arteries, causing the latter to harden or become narrower. When left untreated, this may lead to heart attack.

High medicine cost is the primary reason people with bad cholesterol fail to comply with their medication

According to Agana, the new product targets patients who are currently taking their prescribed medication but are looking for an affordable alternative. The Compliance Pouch contains the same effective, quality maintenance medicine good for 15 days at half the price.

Prevention as well as control of bad cholesterol are essential to keep patients from acquiring more chronic diseases that may come as a result of non-adherence to their therapy. These diseases include coronary heart disease, stroke and chronic kidney disease.

“Complying with the medication schedule prescribed by your doctor will go a long way in preventing the worst consequences of bad cholesterol,” says Agana.

Managing cholesterol level is an important health concern especially among older people

Furthermore, the Department of Health says controlling high blood pressure and bad cholesterol among Filipinos is an important leap forward in achieving the global target of reducing 25 percent of premature deaths from non-communicable diseases by 2025.

To help address this global health concern, Agana said that patients need to play their part by simply going through their medication adherence process.

“One way to do this is to take the prescribed medication according to the schedule intended by your doctor,” he said. “Medication adherence has always been an important pillar in going back to your normal life. Taking your prescription only when needed only puts you under more health risks in the long run.”
