The skincare brand with ‘nothing to hide’

“We basically give away formulas,” Nils Johnson, founder of Good Molecules skincare brand, told select members of the press during a virtual conference held via Zoom.

Johnson was referring to the brand’s packaging which has a list of the ingredients that comprise each product, with percentage of amount also included—a bold but rewarding move.

“We’re the first to put out our formulas,” he shared.

Real people who use Good Molecules and see the difference in their skin.

He continued, “A lot of people try to be secretive about their products, but when we put our ingredients out there we get good feedback. Publishing our ingredients allows us to do a better job for our consumers; it’s important that customers know what they’re putting on their skin.”

When Johnson, who’s also the founder of US-based e-commerce platform Beautylish, first thought of launching Good Molecules, he said the intention was to “take quality up and put prices down,” by means of using science-backed skincare solutions and doing away with unnecessary add-ons that don’t work in improving skin and addressing problems.

To keep prices down and still ensure each product is effective, Johnson said the key was using the right amount of ingredients. “We try not to use the highest concentration of actives because it might cause irritation,” and they instead use the “concentration that’s still effective.”

Good Molecules also does away with fragrance, and uses recycled glass for the product packaging.

Before Audrey Dy brought Good Molecules to the Philippines, she said she first tried it and loved the results.

“Usually my problem with skincare is you don’t usually see a difference,” she lamented. “I’m very acne-prone, but when I used Good Molecules, I instantly saw a difference in my skin and thought this is exactly what the Philippine market needed.”

Good Molecules’ products now available in the Philippines include (clockwise) Caffeine Energizing Hydrogel Eye Patches, Hyaluronic Acid Serum, Niacinamide Serum, Discoloration Correcting Serum, Pineapple Exfoliating Powder, and Niacinamide Toner.

Dy is the creative and marketing director of Painted Ladies Cosmetics, the local distributor of Good Molecules here in the Philippines.

Select products from the brand are exclusively available on beautymnl.com. Those who want to give Good Molecules a try can check out the Pineapple Exfoliating Powder (P1,000) that gently exfoliates keratin protein from the skin surface using fruit enzymes, vitamin C, and rice powder. It can be used up to four times a week.

The alcohol-free Niacinamide Toner (P875), meanwhile, promotes bright, even skin and helps smoothen texture and address enlarged pores, acne scars, and dark marks with its blend of niacinamide (vitamin B3), vitamin C, and naturally derived arbutin.

For higher concentration of niacinamide, Johnson recommends one of their bestsellers, the Niacinamide Serum (P375). With 10 percent niacinamide, it helps improve skin texture, minimize pores, and reveal healthier-looking complexion.

The Discoloration Correcting Serum (P750) works best in addressing hyperpigmentation, age spots, acne scars, and sun damage. “It’s gentle, non-irritating, and can be used morning and night,” said Johnson.

UPFRONT. With an aim to let consumers know what they put on their skin, Good Molecules lists down all the ingredients that comprise its skincare products.

For skin that needs hydration, the light-as-water Hyaluronic Acid Serum (P375) draws moisture to the skin for long-lasting hydration, so much so that after just one use, the brand says skin appears smooth, supple, and well-hydrated.

The Caffeine Energizing Hydrogel Eye Patches (P1,125) is a quick pick-me-up for tired-looking eyes as each tub comes with 30 pairs of caffeine-infused patches that brighten, hydrate, and reduce puffiness in 10 minutes.

Other products available on BeautyMNL include Clarify and Cleanse Bar, Instant Cleansing Bar, Rosewater Daily Cleansing Gel, Vitamin C Booster Powder, Daily Brightening Serum, Silicone-free Priming Moisturizer, and Overnight Exfoliating Treatment.

Dy said more products from Good Molecules will be here soon.
