When the self-made makeup mogul who built her empire through her profound eyebrow know-how tells you about the right way to draw your brows, you listen.
During a virtual press launch-cum-makeup tutorial, Anastasia Beverly Hills founder and “Eyebrow Queen” Anastasia Soare demonstrated how she does her brows using her company’s tried and tested products and new releases.
Draw brows like Anastasia
In drawing brows Soare said, “You’d want to achieve very natural eyebrows. A [pair of] full natural eyebrows has hairs, of course. The light will create shadow of your hair on the skin, so you need to always use layers of products to create that perfect, natural eyebrows.”
To achieve said natural-looking brows, it’s vital to do upward, light strokes to mimic eyebrow hair strands.
Following “The Golden Ratio,” the guiding principle behind Soare’s brow shaping technique, start drawing from the highest part of the brows, which is slightly in the middle, then to the tail, and do the part of the brows closest to the center of the face.
Soare, during the virtual launch, drew realistic hair strokes using her brand’s latest Brow Pen, a superfine-tipped pen designed to make detailed drawing in between hair strands. “The pencil comes in many colors, from blonde to very dark,” said the makeup mogul.
“If it’s darker, you brush immediately,” Soare said, referring to the product application. Using a spoolie, she advised to “blend immediately, you don’t wait for the brow pen to dry.”
Even the “Eyebrow Queen” herself knows that mistakes happen, and when they do, “you can always brush off,” adding, “if you did a boo-boo, did too much, take a Q-tip and start all over again until you understand how much pressure you need to use.”
When drawing brows, Soare said to ensure to do it long and balanced.
“If the eyebrow is too short, everything looks ‘too in the middle’ of the face, and your face appears too round. And if you have big, round face, you’d want to balance it perfectly,” explained Soare.
If like Soare, you have ample space between your upper lids and your eyebrows, fill your brows underneath, not above to prevent looking like your face is too long. “The only time you fill above your eyebrows is if you have very small space [between upper eyelids and eyebrows],” she emphasized.
Finish the look
After the Brow Pen, Soare said to use highlighter “to clean the lines, define the lines, and highlight the brow bones.”
The new Soft Glam II, a mini palette, comes with glam shimmers that can be used not only as eye shadow but also highlighter.
The eight-shade palette features six fan-favorite shades from the original Soft Glam Eye Shadow Palette plus two shades from the cult-classic Norvina Eye Shadow Palette by her daughter and Anastasia Beverly Hills creative director Claudia Soare.
Set the brows with Anastasia Beverly Hills’ Clear Brow Gel, a lightweight topcoat gel that sets products and keeps hair in place all day.
Also included in the latest lineup of eye makeup products are the new Brow Definer, an eyebrow pencil that has three different-sized edges and spoolie; and the limited edition Mini Lash Brag Volumizing Mascara Ornament, a travel-sized mascara that adds volume to lashes.
Face mask-friendly lip makeup
To cater to the need for lip color that works well during a pandemic that demands we wear mask, the brand introduces a long-lasting lip stain with rich color, matte finish, weightless feel, and serious staying power.
“A little light layer can go a long way,” said Anastasia Beverly Hills artistry trainer Daisy Velazquez.
Also part of the new releases is the limited edition Haute Holiday Mini Lip Gloss Set, which features the brand’s signature vanilla scent and comes in four new shades including two lacquer finishes with high-shine effect and two shimmering finishes with multi-dimensional reflect.
