Summer on my mind

The summer breeze is here, making us feel all kinds of fine. It’s the same feeling we get looking at these pieces made for the sunny season. Warning: floral prints and freshness abound.

Once upon a time in Japan

Lacquerware, ikebana and Ukiyo-e shine in Tadashi Shoji’s spring collection.

Lacquerware’s decorative motifs inspire intricate embroideries and lacquer-like sheens. The works of Ukiyo-e artists, Hokusai and Utamaro, are referenced in print and silhouette alike, where fluid draping and graceful shapes pair with obi-inspired knotting.

The elegance of ikebana is seen in bright, blossoming flowers, like wandering through a Japanese garden, where chrysanthemums sparkle and peonies bloom.

Overall, the collection exudes fantasy while staying grounded in the real world with pieces that embrace quiet luxury and cultural richness.

Tadashi Shoji is at Rustan’s Makati, Shangri-La, Gateway, and Cebu.

Flower power

Inspired by the non-violent Flower Power movement during the late ‘60s to early ‘70s, Vivienne Tam launches a collection that highly features embroidered flowers and colors in nature—as a means to advocate love, peace, and idealistic value.

Pieces from the spring/summer 2020 collection come in tawny neutrals, pops of blue sky, orange set, green grasses and wheat fields, tawnier hues and pops reflecting wildflowers.

Quite notable from this collection are the recycled yarns, fabrics, and trims used, which according to Vivienne Tam came from various seasons. The juxtaposition of pattern clashes, patchwork, silk, new texture and fabrics unified with the sentiments of the past revitalized.

Beach babe

When the beach calls, it should always be answered—with swimwear and sunscreen ready. Australian swimwear brand Seafolly answers the call of the season with multiple prints and collections.

Wild Tropics is inspired by the jungle with bandeaus, zip front surf shirts, and cover-ups in saffron, amber, black, and blush. Spirit Animal packs a lot of attitude in leopard spot-inspired prints in bralette, tube top, and triangle bra.

Channel Sophia Lauren or Audrey Hepburn on a yacht in retro pants and halter bras featuring Capri Sea print inspired by the jagged white cliffs of—yes, you guessed it—Capri. Add a little sparkle with twist bandeau or maillot in desert sunset hues, antique coral, and saffron from the elegant Stardust line.

Baja Stripe brings the vibrant colors of Mexico with Rio pants, strapless tube, and more in saffron or purple rain.

Seafolly is at Rustan’s Makati, Alabang, Shangri-La, and Cebu.
