A year ago, I received an all-pink press kit filled with ‘90s-popular treats like ChocNut bars, Peter’s Butterball candies, PomPoms, Sweet Corn, Sailor Moon, and Barbie paper dolls, and a bottle of fine wine. The kit for the launch of ReWINEd: A Throwback Podcast was personalized with a note for “Tita Kate.”
Yes, as a Tita in my late 30s, I find joy in listening to Jimpy Anarcon’s throwback podcast. As promised, it unpacks a lot of memories that will give you a nostalgic whiplash and take you back to the ‘80s, ‘90s, or early 2000s. Whether you are a Gen-Z, a millennial, or a boomer, the podcast offers a feel-good experience that makes you feel like you are part of the conversations. Just like in real life, memories and conversations are best served with a glass of wine, hence, the podcast name.
Jimpy, a 26-year-old TV and pop culture junkie knows his stuff, and is a naturally gifted conversationalist. His years of experience as a media practitioner interviewing celebrities and hosting an online program for the country’s top entertainment website honed him to be the reliable host that he is today. With how the podcast episodes are structured, you wouldn’t think the podcast project is just a side hustle. He lovingly records and edits episodes at home, treating each like a baby.
While Jimpy is a legend when it comes to local teleseryes (name it, he has probably seen it), youth-oriented shows, reality shows, sitcoms (like the timeless Friends series), and other celebrity tidbits, ReWINEd: A Throwback Podcast also takes us on a deep dive into Pinoy childhood, high school, and college memories. Even without social media years ago, it is interesting to discover how many memories have been shared by Filipinos from all over the Philippines. In one of the episodes, I got the chance to chat with Jimpy and some friends about our toys growing up. There is richness in experience and memories that a good conversation can uncover. You can catch that in the early part of his playlist.
What I like most about ReWINEd is how each episode is packed with funny stories or joy-triggering memories. I thoroughly enjoyed eavesdropping on Jimpy’s conversations with the brains and creatives behind the country’s hit TV programs and being fed a lot of interesting anecdotes behind the scenes.
Reminiscing, as often mentioned in psychology features, helps us recall important moments in our life and bask in the positive emotions they bring. Sharing our thoughts and reflecting upon our feelings and experiences have the potential to help us recalibrate and redefine our identities. In my case, my curiosity as a 12-year-old kid was satisfied by ReWINEd’s episodes. My questions from more than two decades about the production and filming of teen-oriented anthologies T.G.I.S. and G.I.M.I.K. were answered. I also feel like I am part of reunions when Jimpy brings together stars from different shows or holds one-on-one exclusives with icons.
Jimps, as he is fondly called, by his friends and celebrities, works his magic each time. His sit-down interviews often include spilled secrets and never-before-heard trivia from his guests. I feel that more podcast listeners deserve to know about his platform.
Powered by Pipe Network, ReWINEd: A Throwback Podcast drops a new episode every Saturday on Spotify and Apple Podcasts. Grab that glass of wine and get ready for some Senti Sabado feels. Just press play and ReWINEd.
