Four Points by Sheraton Palawan leads in sustainable tourism

Four Points by Sheraton Palawan is setting a new standard for eco-friendly tourism in the Philippines, blending luxury with sustainability at its beachfront property on Sabang Beach. Opened as the first Four Points hotel in the country, the resort is committed to minimizing its environmental impact while offering guests a memorable vacation experience.

Situated on a 5.3-hectare property, the resort is strategically located near the Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park, home to the famous underground river, mangrove forests, and waterfalls. With 168 rooms, Four Points Palawan serves as an ideal base for visitors looking to explore the area’s natural beauty.

Sustainability is a core value at Four Points Palawan. The resort has partnered with the Sabang Renewable Energy Corporation to use solar power as its primary energy source, operating 300KW of in-house solar panels. It also employs energy-efficient LED lighting throughout the property to further reduce its carbon footprint.

The resort features an organic garden which produces the herbs and vegetables used in its restaurants

The resort’s farm-to-table approach emphasizes locally sourced ingredients, with an organic garden on-site that produces herbs and vegetables for use in its restaurants. The garden is irrigated with rainwater, and the soil is fertilized with coffee grounds to maintain sustainability. Additionally, the resort partners with Sheridan Organic Farm for fresh produce, sourcing over 150 kilos of vegetables weekly. Future plans include sustainable seafood sourcing in collaboration with local fishermen.

In an effort to minimize waste, Four Points has implemented a strict ‘Zero Plastic Policy,’ replacing disposable plastic with cassava-based containers and glass bottles. To further reduce plastic usage, the resort has installed a reverse osmosis system to clean and reuse glass bottles, significantly cutting down on waste.

The resort also encourages eco-conscious events, offering alternatives like donating event materials to local schools instead of using single-use items. Long-term plans include hosting linen-free conventions to reduce the environmental impact of laundering linens.

The resort’s ‘Sea Turtle Saga’ initiative helps in protecting the nesting sites for sea turtles

Four Points Palawan’s commitment to sustainability extends to marine conservation efforts. Through its ‘Sea Turtle Saga’ initiative, the resort helps protect nesting sites for sea turtles, including Olive Ridley and Green Sea turtles. Working with the Protected Area Management Board (PAMB), the resort educates guests on marine preservation and contributes to ongoing conservation efforts.

By integrating sustainability into its operations, Four Points Palawan aims to offer guests an unforgettable stay while promoting environmental responsibility. “We strive to harmonize modern luxury with respect for nature,” said General Manager Dietmar Platz. With its eco-friendly initiatives, the resort is not only preserving Palawan’s natural beauty but also ensuring that future generations can enjoy the island’s rich biodiversity.
