Moms from different generations on their influences and must-haves

Mothers nurture, mothers empower, mothers inspire. And even if they always appear strong and know everything, mothers draw confidence and inspiration from other sources, too.

These three mothers from three different generations share their biggest life influences, people who helped shape them into who they are. Plus, they also talk about their confidence-boosting fashion must-haves.

Biggest life influence: “I have always been inspired by how my mom conquers everything. We have been through a lot especially when I was just a commercial model. We started from scratch. Everything I am is because of her. I will always, always love her and look up to her…and her recipes. Haha!”

Stylish mama must-haves: “White or black high-waist pants, a denim jacket, linen, or anything soft and comfy because I’m always on the go. I also love a good pair of sneakers. I think confidence starts when you feel comfortable outside and inside.”

Thirty-something mother: Kelly Misa

Biggest life influences: “I have always known my lola (Rosalina Galvez) to be stylish, put together, and pristine. Growing up, I watched her get dressed and she always chose timeless classic silhouettes that stand the test of time. I am still very much inspired by her way of dressing and I love how I am able to wear old and new pieces together.

“My mother (Rosemarie Misa) is definitely an inspiration because of her ageless beauty. She has always looked younger than her age and I attribute my looks to her. Both of them inspire me so much to take care of myself and dress well.”

Stylish mama must-haves: “My top three fashion must-haves that inspire, motivate, and bring me confidence are a pair of great fitting jeans, there’s nothing like a pair of denim that fits amazingly; a pair of comfortable and stylish shoes; and a beautiful blazer, a must-have in any girl’s closet.”

Fifty-something mother: Tessa Prieto-Valdes

Biggest life influence: “In a generation that was predominantly housewives, my mother was already a business executive ever since I can remember! Back then and now, she is driven, passionate about work, and is the most charitable person I know. She is strict but fair, always there for business advice and/or marital support, and a true example of a devoted and patient wife and a nurturing mother.

‘‘If I could be half as disciplined and half as successful as she has been, I would have achieved so much already. She thought me that the legacy we leave behind is equally important as the life we live so we should always live it well, right, and share blessings whenever possible!”

Stylish mama must-haves: ‘‘My first top fashion must-have is a dress with any interesting, bold, and loud print so I feel the statement piece beaming with confidence. Second is a great pair of heels in any unique color or shade – something that is hard to match so there is a sense of edginess in my style! The third is accessories.”
