Head lice infestation in the time of distance learning

The fight against head lice infestation, considered the second most common health problem among public school students after tooth decay, continues even if this school year will be conducted mostly at home.

As part of its annual lice infestation awareness movement “Kilusang Kontra Kuto (KKK),” Lamoiyan Corporation, the maker of Licealiz shampoo, once again teamed up with the Department of Education to launch the fifth year of its initiative.

NO LICE, JUST LESSONS. Although students are studying at home, a maker of head lice shampoo reminds them and members of their household to observe proper hygiene to prevent lice infestation, especially in close quarters.

“We are grateful for the Department of Education for being very supportive of our Kilusang Kontra Kuto campaign. With our long-running partnership with DepEd, we were able to visit several schools, do shampooing activities among students and share the correct way of combatting head lice since 2016,” said Lamoiyan Corporation vice president for marketing Bing Cavestany.

Since social gatherings are not allowed, Lamoiyan reached out to selected schools in different regions nationwide to donate over three million worth of its products through the Education department, thus encouraging students to observe proper personal hygiene in their homes.

“Although students now are practicing distance learning and we temporarily cannot do our annual activities due to the COVID-19 crisis, Licealiz would like to consistently promote health and personal hygiene through our humble donation as children or even family members are still susceptible to head lice infestation no matter the circumstances, especially with many staying at home and in close quarters during the pandemic,” explained Cavestany.

Lamoiyan distributed packs of Licealiz Head Lice Treatment Shampoo and other hygiene essentials like Hapee Toothpaste and Dazz Dishwashing Liquid to selected regions for distribution among the students.

“We select them based on the student population per region. DepEd regional offices handle the distribution to the schools and the students,” said Licealiz brand manager Cristina Martinez.

Lamoiyan Corporation, with the help of the Department of Education, distributes Licealiz Head Lice Treatment Shampoo and other cleaning and personal hygiene products to selected schools in different regions nationwide, including Region IV-A (top) and National Capital Region.

Moreover, Lamoiyan continues to spread awareness about lice infestation through its social media accounts, virtual events, and online learning modules.

“There are many misconceptions about how a person gets infected by head lice—our elders would say that it is because we stay too long under the sun and such, but the primary way of getting infected with head lice is by close person-to-person contact. When someone is infected with head lice, there is a huge risk of infecting other members of the family,” explained Martinez.

Licealiz Head Lice Treatment Shampoo claims to effectively kill lice and nits after two weeks of use, and prevents lice infestation from recurring. Its active ingredient, pyrethrin, a natural extract from chrysanthemum flowers, is clinically tested and proven safe, while its conditioning formula keeps kids’ hair soft, smooth, and fragrant.
