Biking miles for poor dogs and cats

They inhaled sulfur after the Taal volcano erupted. They ate anything to survive. Because of these, their kidneys and liver were compromised.

Taal pups are still being monitored due to blood in their poop. Once stable, they will be put up for adoption.

Until now, the immune system of two mama dogs and two adult dogs from danger zone Lemery in Batangas are not as strong as dogs who were not exposed to the ashes after Taal volcano erupted.

The poop of eight puppies rescued in Lemery still have worms and blood. The worms, the vet said, were passed on by the mama dogs who ate anything during the time of crisis, when no one could feed them as the humans were forcibly evacuated to keep them safe.

For Taal animal victims and other dogs and cats who were neglected, abused and abandoned, endurance cyclists from Team Harkor (a cycling jargon for hardcore) who are animal lovers will bike from Manila to Davao City as part of their promise to help animal victims in this part of the world.

For these 12 dogs and pups who were victims of Taal’s eruption, these adventurous cyclists-cum-animal-lovers will bike from Luzon through Bicol, the Visayas through Samar and Leyte and Mindanao through the dreaded Buda (Bukidnon-Davao) road to raise funds for the dogs' medical treatment, vaccination, and spaying of adult dogs.

For other rescued dogs and cats of Save ALL Inc.- Save Animals of Love and Light, the members of Team Harkor will bike from March 12 to 18 to get donations of much-needed medicine and food supplies for these once abandoned, abused, and neglected animals.

On its verison 2.0, Team Harkor hopes to do better after teaming up with the Pinoy Road Bikers Inc. (PRBI) which is considered as one of the country's biggest cycling group.

Save ALL was chosen by the group as the beneficiary of the team's charity project because “the organization is one of the most active  and most legitimate animal welfare and rescue groups in the country today.”

The bike enthusiasts hope to raise more awareness about rescued dogs and cats and to encourage kind-hearted persons to adopt a dog or cat.

They also hope many hoomans will donate for the rescues such as rice, dog food, cat food, LC Vit multivitamins, vegetables,  dewormers for dogs and cats, heartworm prevention meds for dogs and cats, bravecto, frontline spot-on for dogs and cats, eye drops for senior dogs such as Vistalens and Hypromellose,  dishwashing paste for washing bowls, among others.

May many help continue to care for dogs and cats who have been rescued but have not been adopted.

Adult dogs from Lemery, Batangas have been vaccinated. These two Taal survivors– Choco and Whitey- have become bonded. They are playful and sweet.

After months or even years of a traumatic life as strays,  they deserve to be fed and cared for continuously. Let us not wait for them to be adopted to feel safe and loved.
