Pupil qualifies at the IMG Academy Junior World Championship

Five-year-old golfer Rafael Lucas L. De Guzman has secured a spot at the IMG Academy Junior World Championship after a splendid performance at the recently concluded qualifiers in Cavite.

The young golf player scored a total of 239 on the three-day tournament in the “6 and under” boys division. He then form part of the top three finishers along with Sorreen Lee and Kenzo Handog Tan who earned the coveted slots to play at the Junior World Championship set July 10 to 14 in San Diego, California.

Lucas is a five-year-old golfer who began honing his skills at the age of three

Inspired by his impressive performance, Lucas continued to clinch the top spots in the four golf tournaments that he joined thereafter. 

Currently, a first-grader at Kinder Crib, he was accelerated with a notably advanced intelligence as affirmed by his teachers. He has been a consistent top student in his class. 

Lucas has been playing golf competitively since the age of three. He has been under the tutelage of Coach Andre Casimiro and will be further guided for the upcoming international competition by Coach Toch Altea, the coach of Asian Games gold medalist Yuka Saso.

“If he wins in the  US, we have no clue as to what’s in store for him after since all the best golfers in the world will be there. We don’t want to expect anything but then again we are certain that he will bring honor to the Philippines,” his proud mom shared. 

“I’m very proud of everything my son has accomplished at such a young age. At five years old, I already see how dedicated he is to develop his skills. Beyond the medals and trophies, I’m most proud of seeing how he has this innate drive to become the best he can be,” his mom ended.
