Physical activity, or the lack thereof, has an impact on one’s physical and mental well-being.

LET’S GET PHYSICAL. Coach Johann Joaquin trying out the high-tech Italian machine Run Personal at Technogym Showroom.

There are easy activities we can do every day, at home or outdoors, and not consider them strenuous exercises. Staircase walking, for example, or doing room to room chores in the house. Bicycling, dancing fast (Zumba easily comes to mind), shooting baskets in an improvised basketball court, jumping rope, swimming, walking the dog, or simply pushing a baby’s stroller, can easily alter moods, releasing endorphins that benefit one’s mental and physical health.

Engaging oneself regularly in physical activities helps build and maintain healthy bones and muscles, check avoirdupois, produce lean muscles, sustain the right level in the blood pressure, and prevent diabetes, colon cancer, and osteoporosis.

Physical activities also reduce feelings of depression and anxiety. They likewise enhance the capacity of older adults to maintain their quality of life and functional independence.

On young people, regular physical activities for at least 30 minutes help develop healthy bones, efficient heart and lung function, and improve motor skills and cognitive performance. Women who regularly exercise develop flexibility and are rarely prone to hip fractures and some bone injury.

Guests test their limits with the Omnia 8, a group training equipment made for different ability levels.

Exercise has been proven to be therapeutic as it addresses some psychological disorders and depressive tendencies. It helps balance a person’s self-worth and self-perception to achieve a positive and healthy lifestyle.

Particularly apparent are the effects in the prevention of chronic diseases which include, among others, cardiovascular concerns (activities like speed walking, jogging, cycling, and swimming are highly recommended for cardiovascular endurance), hypertension, obesity, and osteoporosis, where mineral contents in the bones are increased.

Engaging in sports activities greatly affects one’s physical nature. Bowling, golf, and tai chi which involve temperate bending or stretching help promote muscular flexibility.

While working out at home is practical, there are other venues where working out with friends and family members will reduce the tendency to sometimes goof off. A gym workout in this case will bring out the best in you, with a program that works with your schedule, once or several times a week, and your budget.

A sports gym employs professional trainers who will tailor an effective workout plan that is safe, fun, and fitted to individual fitness needs using scientifically proven methods used by professional athletes and big-league Olympians. Gyms and health clubs have specialized fitness programs to suit a person’s fitness requirement—whether for beginners, youth, and adults—honing up for athletic competitions for a chance to be heroes, weight loss and weight gain, rehabilitation, pre-natal and post-natal workouts, endurance, bodybuilding, or simply toning up.

Technogym sales manager Marvin Navarro

The E-Sports International has supplied the last six Olympic Games with machines for their gym facilities. In the Philippines for more than 10 years now, with a growing clientele of hotels, hospitals, private resorts, health clubs, and residential homes, the company recently launched its Technogym Showroom in Chino Roces Avenue, Makati City.

It is equipped with the latest Italian-made fitness machines—the Skillrun, Skillrow, and the Skillbike—along with its equally high-tech equipment, the Run Personal and Cross Personal, Kinesis Personal Vision (a designer gym furniture with mirrors to instantly check posture while exercising), MyRun, Job Forma, Unica Multigym, the Omnia 8, and various Skilltools.

Some of the aforementioned equipment are installed at the New Clark City Athletic Stadium, helping power up Filipino athletes with the integrated performance training program necessary as they battle it out at the ongoing 30th Southeast Asian Games.

The fitness industry has reached an ever-increasing new heights in the last few years with more people keen on making themselves feel and function better with the right exercise regimen with the help of the right equipment.
