A splash of colors at stationery art fest

Art enthusiasts of all ages recently gathered together to celebrate creativity and passion at the SM Stationery Art Fest at The SM Store in Makati and at the SM Megamall Mega Fashion Hall.

Now on its third year, the art fest showcased popular arts and crafts like Script Lettering, Brush Pen Calligraphy, Floral Watercolor Painting, Doodling, Etching, Oriental Pattern Collage, Psychedelic Art and Crunchy, and Glowy Slime Making.

Googly Gooeys blogger Tippy Go, who co-released a Stick ‘Em Up Book in collaboration with Abbey Sy in 2016, gave doodling a new spin by using colors and cartoons in her doodles.

Calligrapher Carl Chua, on the other hand, shared his love for nibs in brush pen calligraphy using Pilot Parallel Pens, while ABS-CBN FrontEnd developer and illustrator Paolo Tugano showed the different techniques and forms of Lettering, at the same time highlighting its difference from Calligraphy.

Visual artist Avin del Rosario, who did murals for Neverland Manila and The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, taught the basics of wet on wet technique in Watercolor Nightscape Painting.

Art instructor Ian de Jesus, who is into fashion retail design and the creative director of Crafter’s Marketplace, gave tips on how to collage Oriental Art Patterns which include seigaiha, pattern of layered concentric circles creating arches, symbolic of waves or water; kiku, a flower pattern for beauty and longevity; and shippou, a traditional pattern which refers to the seven treasures of Buddhism.

Kids had fun making child friendly, crafty, and non-toxic slimes in the Crunchy and Glowy Slime Making activity with preschool teacher Jillian Dungo; while Sakura’s Evanna Chan taught kids and adults on how to do the basics of Psychedelic Art Cutout.
