The award-winning Ateneo Chamber Singers (ACS) open 2017 with a bang by mounting an epic choral event at 7 p.m. on Jan. 14 at Theatre at Solaire.

Simply entitled Tatlo, the concert brings together three internationally renowned choirs from three different countries: the ACS, led by Jonathan Velasco and representing the Philippines, join forces with the SYC Ensemble Singers of Singapore led by Jennifer Tham, and the Gaia Philharmonic Choir of Japan led by Ko Matsushita. All three choirs are international competition winners and have made waves in the global choral scene.

The Ateneo Chamber Singers will represent the Philippines as they join forces with Singapore’s SYC Ensemble Singers and Japan’s Gaia Philharmonic Choir for the choral event ‘Tatlo’ happening on Jan. 14  at Solaire.

To add to the magnitude of this event, the ACS brings in no less than the ABS-CBN Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Gerard Salonga to perform with the three choirs.

The ACS has enjoyed a fruitful working relationship with the orchestra through the years. Some of their latest collaborations include The Magic of John Williams (December 2015), Andrea Bocelli’s Cinema Tour in Manila (April 2016) and the Live Screening of Ignacio (July 2016).

This time, Salonga conducts all three choirs and his orchestra as they perform Leonard Bernstein’s “Chichester Psalms,” a choral masterpiece that features a solo quartet and boy soprano/countertenor, described to be a work that contrasts spiritual austerity with impulsive rhythms.

The three choirs will also treat the audience to spot numbers that will highlight the sound and musical strengths of each group.
