‘Baghead’ unleashes horror in chilling tale of grief and the dead

What would you give to speak to the dead…just for two minutes?

The horror film Baghead turns that haunting question into a chilling nightmare, showing that the cost of closure may be steeper than anyone can bear.

Freya Allan (The Witcher) stars as Iris Lark, a young woman who inherits an old London pub, The Queen’s Head, following her father’s sudden death. But inside the centuries-old building lurks a sinister entity known as Baghead — a shape-shifting creature capable of channeling the spirits of the dead by assuming their form. The catch? Each encounter lasts only two minutes.

Ignoring her late father’s warnings, Iris and her best friend Katie exploit Baghead’s powers for profit. But when they push the limits of the creature’s rules, their lives spiral into chaos as the boundary between the living and the dead collapses.

Directed by Alberto Corredor, Baghead expands on his 2017 short film of the same name, co-written with Lorcan Reilly. The feature blends themes of grief, loss, and family with supernatural horror.

“We knew Baghead had to be an iconic character,” Corredor told Warped Perspective, adding that the leap from short film to studio feature was “overwhelming” but rewarding.

Allan said she prepared for her role by delving deep into the psychology of loss. “I watched documentaries and spoke with people about grief,” she told FILMHOUNDS. “I wanted to understand what Iris had gone through before the story began.”

Baghead is now streaming on Lionsgate Play via PLDT Home, Smart, and Cignal.
