The Philippines registered the highest number of online video content consumers in the world, according to the latest Digital 2024 Global Overview Report.

Creative agency We Are Social and media intelligence company Meltwater published the study covering the third quarter of 2023 and said that around 97.2 percent of Filipinos aged 16 to 64 watch some form of video content each week.

Other countries with high percentages of online video viewers include Mexico (97 percent), South Africa (97 percent), Indonesia (96.9 percent), Ghana (96.8 percent), Brazil (96.4 percent), Colombia (96.3 percent), Morocco (96.2 percent), Turkey (96.2 percent), and UAE (96.2 percent).

The Philippines also ranks third in daily internet usage, with an average of 8 hours and 52 minutes per day, following South Africa and Brazil.

Popular video-centric entertainment apps on mobile phones globally, as cited in the report, include YouTube, TikTok, Netflix, Hotstar, and MX Player, based on data from September to November 2023.

The Digital 2024 report also highlights that the number of media users reached more than 5 billion, with annual user growth still exceeding five percent. However, digital growth has slowed in recent years due to the increasing number of internet users reaching a “supermajority.”

Despite the significant online presence, the report also notes that approximately 2.7 billion people remained “unconnected” at the beginning of 2024, representing a notable portion of the global population.
