The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority(MMDA) has always been at the forefront of keeping the general public safe on and off the roads. Due to the metro’s fast-paced lifestyle, there has been a steep increase in health issues such as heart disease, obesity, and diabetes. As part of the MMDA’s growing efforts to encourage and maintain a healthy road-ready workforce, they have partnered up with JCI Manila to launch the project “Batak Trapiko.”
The campaign was launched last March 20 at the MMDA Head Office(Orense, Makati) and featured 100 MMDA field officers. During the weekly flag ceremony of the MMDA, the announcement was made and it was met with utmost excitement. It is a three-month weight loss campaign to encourage a healthier lifestyle for brave MMDA officers. Throughout the program, they will be guided by the project’s medical experts as they share tips on how to shed those pounds in a safe and healthy manner.
The project emphasizes the importance of small lifestyle choices that have huge implications. Examples would be daily decisions like choosing the right foods, getting enough rest, and stress management. With the long hours under the hot Philippine sun dealing with the continuous flow of traffic in Metro Manila, each and every one of the participating MMDA officers have to be fit and ready to go at any time.
“Gusto ko talaga to gawin para sa pamilya ko. Medyo marami na ako sakit kaya gusto ko talaga gawin to para makita ko lumaki mga anak ko,” an MMDA officer said.
“Minsan po nahihirapan na ako maglakad sa kalye kaya sana talaga makapagbawas na,” another officer added.
