Navotas curfew as cases surge

Due to the rising cases of coronavirus disease,  Navotas City has decided to re-impose the 24-hour curfew for minors.

Mayor Toby Tiangco cited a July 17 report stating that  Navotas posted a 105.06% 2-week growth rate of COVID cases, the highest in Metro Manila.

“In June, we had the lowest average daily attack rate in the region. We even recorded 41 active cases on June 25. Now, our active cases have multiplied almost four times. We cannot be complacent. We need to implement additional measures to keep our people safe, especially the children and vulnerable sectors,” he explained.

“Each of us wants our life to go back to normal. However, we are facing a pandemic and we need everyone’s support and cooperation in keeping each other safe,” he added.

Earlier, the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases passed a resolution allowing children aged 5 and above to go outdoors in areas under general community quarantine and modified GCQ.

According to Tiangco, Navotas was already preparing to implement the relaxed  policy but decided to hold it off because of the steady rise of COVID cases.

“Our barangays have already sent a list of areas we could open for children. Unfortunately, our cases have gone up that’s why we needed to defer its implementation,” he said.

Also in Navotas, persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) at the Navotas City Jail received their

first dose of Sputnik vaccine Monday.

The city government inoculated 747 PDLs against Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).

The city also allotted 101 doses of Sputnik to Navoteña PDLs at Malabon City Jail-Female Dormitory.

Earlier, 500 fish workers at Navotas Fish Port Complex received their first dose of AstraZeneca vaccine through the city’s night vaccination.
