CoA recognizes Pasay LGU for tax collection

The Commission on Audit (CoA) on Monday recognized the city government of Pasay for consistently improving its efficiency in collecting business taxes.

COA Director for the Local Government Sector Omar Roque, in his 61-page report, noted Pasay´s CTO (City Treasurer’s Office) had consistently improved its efficiency in collecting business taxes for the past five years.

“We gathered that this was achieved by implementing effective collection strategies and measures by the CTO which included the tax information campaign such as timely announcement of payment deadlines and adopting detailed and facilitative procedural guidelines that assisted taxpayers, among others, which were posted on social media thru the Public Information Office of the City,” Roque said.

“The high collection on business taxes contributed 34.17 percent of the total revenues from all sources... Notably, business taxes has (sic) become a stable source of the City’s revenue and a major factor to the City’s financial self-reliance,” he added.

Roque said the increasing trend of collections “from business taxes, surpassing the target figures for the year, is well perceived.”

Pasay City Mayor Imelda Rubiano said her administration would continue to strive for efficiency to further improve tax collections in the city.

She added the city government had automated basic city services, which included the registration of new and renewal of business permits.
