Lea Salonga backs ‘Manila Support Local’

Broadway diva Lea Salonga has joined Manila City Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso’s campaign to support local businesses in the nation’s capital as more families are severely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Salonga expressed her support for the city government’s “Manila Support Local” campaign and her endorsement of the upcoming “Manila Restaurant Week” during Domagoso’s weekly Facebook Live program “The Capital Report.”

“Napansin ko may mga restaurant sa amin na sarado, na walang mga pumapasok na mga customer. So I felt that it is important to support whatever effort na meron para ang mga negosyante ay matulungan,” Salonga told Domagoso.

“It is important na kahit papaano makatulong, to help encourage businesses, to help businesses stay open. Kasi right now I think everybody is hit financially, economically, maraming mga negosyo na talagang natatamaan dahil sa pandemya, di na sila napupuntahan,” she added.

Domagoso thanked Salonga for supporting his initiative, saying the Manila City government is doing everything it can to stimulate economic activity in the nation’s capital.

He said Salonga will be the special guest for the grand launch of the “Manila Restaurant Week” this week where she is expected to sing her original song titled “Dream Again.”

The Manila Restaurant Week will formally kick off on Sept. 20 and will run until Sept. 27.
