The City of Makati has accomplished 100 percent enrollment for this school year 2020-2021.

“I am happy to report that Makati has achieved 100 percent enrollment for school year 2020-2021 with 77,339 students enrolled to date. We have exceeded last year’s record of 76,599 enrollees,” Mayor Abigail Binay said Friday.

“To me, this mirrors the enthusiasm and drive of our students to continue learning. To our students, know that we are behind you all the way,” she added.

DepEd-Makati Schools Division Superintendent Carleen Sedilla has confirmed that as of July 22, public schools in the city under the supervision of DepEd-Makati, from elementary to senior high school, already registered a total of 77,339 enrollees. These include kindergarten and Special Education (SpEd) learners.

She noted that the said figure does not include an estimated 2,000 enrollees in the Alternative Learning Education System (ALS), and around 5,000 enrollees in the Higher School ng UMak (HSU), as these were still being consolidated.

According to Sedilla, enrolment in the city’s public schools will remain open until August 24, 2020 to accommodate late enrollees.

Mayor Binay earlier announced that some 2,500 teachers in Makati public schools from elementary to senior high school will each receive a brand-new laptop for school year 2020-2021. The number may go as high as 2,800 to include newly hired teachers.

On July 23, the city chief executive led the ceremonial turnover of brand-new laptops to newly hired teachers at Makati High School who are among the first batch of 280 recipients.

In June, she announced that all enrollees in Makati public schools from preschool to senior high school will each receive a learner’s package, in addition to the annual freebies they are receiving under Project FREE of the city government.

Likewise, both teachers and students will receive a free daily five-hour internet load for academic use.

The new learner’s package has an On-The-Go (OTG) flash drive, printed modules, and two washable face masks in a pouch. On the other hand, annual freebies under Project FREE (Free Relevant and Excellent Education) include school supplies and school uniforms. To date, the expanded Project FREE under Mayor Abby’s watch has additional items including rain gear, jacket with hoodies, reusable water tumblers, and rubber shoes, among others.
