Manila City Mayor Francisco “Isko” Domagoso has announced that he is eyeing the Quirino Grandstand as a new site for the local government's free COVID-19 drive-through testing center.

Domagoso said National Parks Development Committee (NPDC) executive director Cecille Lorenzana- Romero has agreed with his proposal to create a new testing site at the grandstand.

The mayor inspected the site upon reports of heavy traffic caused by the long line of vehicles going to the COVID-19 drive-thru testing site in front of the Andres Bonifacio Monument beside Manila City Hall.

"Here, it’s bigger, longer, and more convenient," Domagoso said after inspecting the Quirino Grandstand with city government officials. "Just give me 48 hours (to set this area up). I will do my very best with the help of our co-workers."

"We will always strive to be better, we will continue to listen to you. We will continue to adapt sensible suggestions," he said during a subsequent Facebook Live broadcast.

Lanes will be designated for four-wheel vehicles, tricycles, pedicabs, and motorized and non-motorized vehicles.

The grandstand can accommodate up to 700 vehicles at a time through six lanes, Domagoso said.

Manila's first COVID-19 drive thru testing facility was launched at the Andres Bonifacio Monument on Wednesday, July 15. It is open from Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The city government offered the tests at the facility for free to both Manila residents and non-Manila residents.

"We cannot just take care of our people and leave our neighbors behind. We give more weight to people’s health issues," Domagoso said in an interview with radio DZBB.

Those who want to get tested only have to bring a valid ID. Their results will be relayed to them via SMS or text messaging.
