More technical and vocational courses will be available to Navoteños for free following the establishment of a training partnership between the Navotas Vocational Training and Assessment (NAVOTAAS) Institute and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).
Mayor Toby Tiangco and TESDA Director General, Secretary Isidro S. Lapeña, Friday led the virtual signing of the memorandum of agreement (MOA) that established the TESDA—NAVOTAAS Training Institute.
TESDA Camanava District Director Rolando V. Dela Torre and NAVOTAAS Institute Supervising Administrative Officer Jayne B. Rillon also served as signatories.
Under the 5-year agreement, TESDA will use the second, third, and fourth floors of NAVOTAAS Institute–Main at Brgy. North Bay Boulevard South (NBBS) Kaunlaran as their satellite office and training center.
They will offer tech-voc courses on 2D Animation, Advance Microsoft Excel Training, Computer System Servicing, Cyber Security, Driving, and Solar Powered Lighting and Mobile Phone Charging Kit Training.
They will also shoulder the compensation and other remuneration of their staff and trainers; provide consumable supplies, tools and materials, and other necessary equipment; and pay for the utility expenses.
Navotas will allow the use of existing equipment in the Institute; ensure the security of equipment, tools and materials of the trainings; and assist in the recruitment of beneficiaries and the monitoring and evaluation of the program.
In his message, Mayor Tiangco said he hopes the initiative will help Navoteños transition and adjust to the new normal.
“The pandemic has forced us to change our usual ways of doing business. Companies, and even government agencies, have switched some of their operations online and let their employees work from the safety of their homes,” he noted.
“Remote work may become the new normal for us. Thus, it is crucial to develop skills, especially on the use of digital technology. We are fortunate that these same skills are what TESDA-NAVOTAAS Training Institute hopes to develop in its students,” he added.
Also present during the virtual MOA signing were Congressman John Rey Tiangco, city councilors and NAVOTAAS Institute board of trustees and instructors.
“We have been under community quarantine for more than three months now, yet we still do not know what will happen next. What’s certain is that we need to learn new skills so we could adapt and thrive,” Congressman Tiangco said.
“Let us use our time to re-skill and re-tool ourselves. Our preparations today will help us take on and surpass the challenges of the new normal,” he added.
