After two postponements caused by the coronavirus disease pandemic, Valenzuela City finally got to honor the 20 Top Taxpayers and 23 Job Providers for 2019 starting Tuesday, handing out the trophies to the awardees at their own doorsteps.
The Top Taxpayers and Top Job Providers Night, originally set on February 14, was supposed to be one of the highlights of the City’s 22nd Charter Day Anniversary.
It was cancelled as a precautionary measure against the onset of COVID-19.
The awarding was then rescheduled to March 13, but was once again postponed as Enhanced
Community Quarantine was declared in Metro Manila, with any form of mass gathering already prohibited.
With high recognition and gratitude to Valenzuela City’s vibrant business industry, Mayor Rex Gatchalian affirmed that the taxes would go a long way in funding and strengthening the City’s COVID-19 response and hoped to retain more businesses and be a competitive business hub in the future.
“Local governments have become more competitive. We want to get more businesses in [and] we want to retain more businesses so we have to up our game in terms of infrastructure and enable to be able to attract these types of businesses,” Gatchalian said.
In his letter to the awardees, Gatchalian acknowledged how instrumental the taxes were in ensuring that the City stayed afloat especially during the two-month ECQ.
He also expressed his gratitude to the companies for their contribution to the City’s relief efforts and their support to the frontliners.
