Parañaque distributes P1k  gift checks to seniors

The Parañaque City government has started the distribution of gift checks worth P1,000 to more than 58,000 senior citizens in 16 barangays.

Mayor Edwin Olivarez said the gift checks will be delivered by a local courier to seniors presently enrolled in the city’s Office of Senior Citizens Affairs program to ensure that only legitimate and qualified residents received the food voucher.

Records showed that there are 58,429 seniors enrolled in OSCA Cares from the city’s 16 barangays. It was learned several senior citizens were not able to avail cash assistance under the social amelioration program of the government.

Olivarez said the GC may be used to purchase grocery and supermarket items from any SM outlet by the seniors themselves or by anyone they entrust the voucher.

He said this is part of the city’s continuing relief operations to ensure the well-being of residents especially the elderly who are most vulnerable and equally helpless during the quarantine period. Joel Zurbano
