Students from the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM) and the Universidad de Manila (UdM) will receive P2,000 each, representing their P1,000 monthly allowance for the months of November and December 2024.

Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna announced that the city government has already approved the release of the funding for the said allowance where 18,692 college students will benefit.

The UdM and the PLM are both being run by the local government of Manila and the monthly allowance for the college students is part of its ongoing social amelioration program (SAP).

Lacuna passed and drafted this law when she served as presiding officer of the Manila City Council in her concurrent capacity as vice mayor then.

“This modest assistance is proof of our full support to our students, enabling them to graduate from college,” she stated in Tagalog.

Lacuna said that of the total number of students who stand to receive their financial aid, 8,200 are from PLM while 10,492 are students of UdM.

The PLM students can withdraw the money through their debit card accounts.

In the case of UdM, its President Dr. Felma Carlos-Tria said the allowances are being released through organized cash payouts in person. Distribution dates are being scheduled and payout processes are being prepared.

Lacuna said her administration is working on UdM students to also have debit cards for security reasons and for financial inclusion purposes, consistent with the policies of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas.
