The housing complex inside the Boys Town property in Marikina City will soon be expanded, thanks to the Rotary Club of Manila Bay.

The City of Manila, which owns Boys Town, and the Rotary Club of Manila Bay signed last Dec. 13 a memorandum of agreement tasking the latter to provide for the property’s rehabilitation.

“We are grateful that private sector organizations heeded to our call for help,” said Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko” Domagoso when he met with Rotary Club of Manila president Andrew Buencamino.

Boys Town is a non-profit orphanage for the homeless, abandoned, forgotten and voluntarily surrendered children, teenagers and senior citizens in Manila.

Under the agreement, the City of Manila will provide space in the 4,000-square meter property along Narra Blvd. to build five housing units for the elderly.

Buencamino, who is also the executive director of the Philippine Racing Commission, said the Rotary Club Manila will fund the project to the tune of P12.5 million.

“We proposed a project to the City of Manila through our good Mayor for the improvement of Luwalhati na Maynila,” said Buencamino.

Officials said there are 320 elderly people now housed and provided for by the City Government in Boys Town.

Since the facility can only support 200 when it was built in the 1950, the City Government now needs to expand the housing complex to accommodate more people, specifically the elderly ones.

Buencamino added that it is their passion and interest to help the elderly which has compelled the Rotary Club to extend a helping hand.

They are now committed to to build new homes and make improvements in the place that is available.
