Isko orders crackdown on Recto forgery

Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko” Domagoso on Monday ordered a crackdown against manufacturers of fake college diplomas, government receipts, identification cards for senior citizens and persons with disabilities, and drivers licenses, among others, along Recto Avenue or the so-called “Recto University.”

Domagoso warned owners of these enterprises producing counterfeit documents and licenses—including forgery of National Bureau of Investigation clearances—they would face criminal charges should they continue with their nefarious trade.

“Stop printing fake documents. Those in Recto should stop printing fake Manila government receipts,” the mayor said during Monday’s flag ceremony.

“Aren’t you ashamed making fake senior citizen ID and other government documents, including school diplomas? Remember that I will rid you all,” he said.

Domagoso was irked after finding out that even official local government receipts are being illegally produced in the area.

“You’re forging even the local government’s receipts. You are angry at the corrupt government employees. But you are getting money intended for the city coffers,” Domagoso said.

The Manila police recently raided a stall along Recto for manufacturing fake IDs and government receipts.

Domagoso reminded various local government offices to “inspect well” the receipts they are receiving.

“Inspect the receipts being given to you. The life of the local government is in there,” he added.
