Navotas fetes teachers, unveils free school Wi-Fi

The Navotas City Government recently held a mini concert and launched free Wi-Fi in public schools in celebration of Navotas Teachers’ Day. 

For three hours, Itchyworms, Richard Gutierrez and Moira dela Torre performed to honor and entertain the 1,800 public teachers in the city.

In his speech, Mayor Toby Tiangco thanked the educators for their commitment to ensure quality learning for the Navoteño youth and for their steadfast support to the city government.”¯

“Your constant support to the city’s programs and projects has made us achieve prestigious recognitions. Among these are the Seal of Good Education Governance in 2018 and 2019, the Galing Pook award, and the Seal of Child-Friendly Local Governance,” he said.

The mayor then led the ceremonial launching of the NavoConnect free wi-fi in the 24 public elementary and high schools in the city.”¯

Each hotspot can accommodate 100 users per hour, and each user will have free internet connection for an hour.”¯

Meanwhile, Rep. John Rey Tiangco related a story about an Alternative Learning System teacher who had to fetch her students from their homes just to ensure that they go to school.

“Your dedicated service helps us secure a bright future for our next leaders. We hope that in due time, the seeds of knowledge and love for learning that you planted in our youth will equip them when their time to run our city comes,” he said.

Navotas celebrates Navotas Teachers’ Day every second Friday of December per Municipal Ordinance No. 2006-02. This year’s celebration came a week early to allow teachers to take a rest on their special day.
