Navotas grants scholarships to 13 art pupils

Young Navoteños with exemplary talents in arts may now study for free following the signing of a memorandum of agreement for the third batch of Navotas Art Scholarship Program.

Ten senior high and three college Navoteño students will now receive educational assistance from the city government after being chosen as scholars in visual arts, music, dancing, theater arts, and creative writing o journalism.

“Our youth deserve all the help and support they could get to succeed in life. We hope that through this scholarship, they will be able to hone their talents and excel in their chosen field,” Mayor Toby Tiangco said.

Under the art scholarship program, beneficiaries will be provided with P16,500 transportation and food allowance as well as P20,000 worth of workshop and training grant per academic year.

Scholars, on the other hand, are expected to maintain good grades and conduct; perform at events and activities of the city government; and undergo workshops, tours, and other programs designed to broaden their artistic learning experience.

The city government established the Navotas Scholarship Program in 2011. The program initially covered students who excelled in academics and teachers who wanted to pursue graduate studies.

“The city government recognized that there are different kinds of intelligence. We want to honor and support not just those who excel in academics but also in other fields,” the mayor added.

Navotas also has scholarships for student-athletes, children or kin of fisherfolks, and differently-abled persons.
