Navotas names 34 new scholars

The city government of Navotas has named 34 new scholars during the graduation ceremonies of the city’s public schools.

Of this number, 15 are incoming high school freshmen, 12 are incoming freshmen of Navotas Polytechnic College (NPC), one is an incoming college freshman, and six are teachers seeking higher education.

In his speech, Mayor John Rey Tiangco stressed the importance of education in achieving success in life.

“Education plays a vital role in achieving success. Through scholarships, we want to help Navoteño youth earn their diploma. This, in turn, will open doors of opportunities for them to fulfill their potential and succeed in life,” he said.

“We also hope to inspire and encourage our youth to keep on dreaming.  We want them to aim high and work towards achieving their dreams not only for themselves but also for their family and loved ones,” Tiangco added.

High school scholars will receive P18,000 per academic year for books, transportation and food allowance.

NPC scholars will get P22,000 per academic year for tuition, books, transportation and food allowance. Scholars of other colleges or universities will be given P26,000 for the same.

Teacher scholars will receive P75,000 every academic year for their tuition, books, transportation and food allowance, and research grant.

Apart from academic scholarships, the city government also offers scholarships to students who excel in the arts, as well as for family members of qualified Navoteño fisherfolks.

Since the NavotaAs Scholarship Program was established in 2011, the city government has sent 771 Navoteños through school. Of these, 325 were academic scholars, 422 were athletic scholars, 19 were art scholars, and five were Ulirang Pamilyang Mangingisda scholars.
