Some 291 Navoteños who availed of the city government’s late registration program received their birth certificates for free.
Fees, penalties and charges on late birth registration amounting to P1,500 were waived under City Ordinance 2018-19 penned by Councilor Ethel Joy Arriola-Mejia and signed by Vice Mayor Clint Geronimo.
Arriola-Mejia, also a lawyer, offered her notarial services for free.
In his speech, Mayor John Rey Tiangco reminded the beneficiaries of the importance of securing the birth registration of their children.
“A birth certificate is not a simple document. It serves as ticket to many government services. This is why it is important that you secure the birth certificates of your kids,” he said.
The mayor also noted that the city has a free birth registration program for Navoteño children born at the Navotas City Hospital and lying-in center.
“Our staff at the city hospital and lying-in center will assist you with birth registration. In addition, you will get a Navocare baby kit for your newborn,” he said.
The baby kit contains a cotton roll, a bottle of alcohol, a baby bath soap, cotton buds, disposable diapers, four onesies, a baby bag, and a baby box that can also serve as the crib.
Since January, 411 late registrants have already received their birth certificates. Navoteños who need to apply for the program may call 281-8531 local 300 or 310. They may also visit the offices of Geronimo and Arriola-Mejia at the 3rd floor of Navotas City Hall.
