Joy, QC shine light on ‘lupon’

QUEZON City Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte has urged village peacekeepers or “Lupong Tagapamayapa” officials to be keepers of good values at the barangay level.

In the recent first Lupon Convention, the vice mayor told the members of the barangay judicial system to stand by their principles in dispensing justice and equality and promoting peace and order.

“Lupong Tagapamayapa must be looked up to as a present-day ‘council of elders’ that ensures the upkeep of integrity, dignity and justice in the barangay,” Belmonte said.

The two-day Lupon Convention focused on the skills enhancement of the pacification committees and was participated in by resource persons from the Department of the Interior and Local Government, Quezon City Police Department, and non-government agencies.

They provided direct knowledge on the resolution of disputes, mediation procedures and legal rights.

Belmonte reminded the officials to assert their strengths so that disputes would no longer have to reach the courts to ease the justice system’s already heavy workload.

“You are the ones who make sure that there is justice in the barangay, so that the different disputes in the barangay do not have to go up to the courts. This will make sure we are not clogging the court dockets with conflicts we can resolve at the barangay level,” she said.

Meanwhile, public school teachers and non-teaching personnel in Quezon City will now receive a P1,500 supplemental allowance every month from the city government.

Ordinance SP 2751-2018 signed by Mayor Herbert Bautista aims to assist the public school teaching and non-teaching personnel and recognize their immense contribution to society through the provision of formal education.

It is the policy of the QC local government to promote and improve the social and economic status of its public teachers and non-teaching personnel, the resolution notes.

The amount needed for the implementation of this ordinance shall be appropriated from the city’s General Fund.
