Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista has advised barangay officials to make realistic developmental plans for their community.

“They should make it good. They have to because they only have a short-term, just two years, so their plans should be fit for the two years they can use,” Mayor Bautista said after administering the oath of office to over 1,000 newly elected barangay officials at Quezon City Hall on Saturday.

Bautista emphasized that barangay officials should align their developmental plans with the vision of the city government.

“[There should be] full cooperation with the city government, learn the plans of the city so whatever the city plans, that’s what they’ll do, and not stray too far from it. If they have an opinion or vision of what they can contribute for the whole of Quezon City, we’re very much open [to suggestions],” he said.

Meanwhile, 337 residents of different barangays in Quezon City have received their certificates after completing the three-month vocational skills training program offered by the Quezon City Social Services Development department.

The graduates are residents of Barangays Bahay Toro, NS Amoranto, Payatas, Batasan Hills, Commonwealth, Holy Spirit, Socorro, Krus na Ligas, Sta. Monica, Novaliches Proper, Nagkaisang Nayon, and Kaligayahan.

The Manpower Barangay-Based Skills Training Program conducted by the SSDD Vocational Development Division offers free skills training on food and beverage services, bread and pastry production, dressmaking, electrical installation and maintenance, cosmetology, home care provider, productivity skills and capability building, hilot wellness and massage, and housekeeping.

Graduates commended the city government’s initiative to upgrade their skills sets.

Social Services Department chief Fe Macale said the objective of the city government under the administration of Mayor Herbert Bautista is to uplift the lives of its residents.

Also, the Quezon City Council has passed a resolution urging Bautista to order the installation of a LED road monitoring advisory system in major roads in the city.

City Resolution 7447-2018 authored by Councilor Allan Butch Francisco aims to address the traffic problem in Metro Manila by installing road monitoring advisory systems.

Advanced traffic system, such as the Intelligent Transport System installed in the North and South Expressways, gives traffic updates in real time and localized traffic information is disseminated through LED billboards.

Updates on congestion of roads, traffic accident ahead and location of roadworks are pertinent information also given by the advanced traffic system for motorists to take alternate routes to reach their destination faster.
