The 37-member Quezon City Council has given Mayor Herbert Bautista the green light to renew the city government’s contract with the Office of the Vice President to use its 5,000-square meter property located in New Manila.

District 1 Councilor Alexis Herrera authored City Resolution 7406 to ratify the contract between the mayor and the office of Vice President Leni Robredo for the lease of the Quezon City Reception House, or the so-called Boracay Mansion.

Located in Barangay Marianas, the property was earlier identified by the OVP as its potential office in Metro Manila.

“The Office of the Vice President has expressed interest in holding its National Capital Region Office in Quezon City where many national government agencies are strategically located,” the resolution read.

The OVP, through the bids and awards committee, determined that the renewal of the contract of lease remained to be advantageous to the government.

The 5,000-sq. m. Quezon City Reception House was originally built as a satellite office of the city mayor where ceremonial and diplomatic functions should be hosted.

Meanwhile, the council also passed a resolution urging the City Engineering Department to repair and restore all open manholes along city roads.

City Resolution 7371-2018, introduced by Councilor Elizabeth A. Delarmente, is in response to the complaints against open manholes that have become repositories of trash that cause flooding.

“There are complaints of open manholes, which were made as dumpsite of some irresponsible individuals that have caused flooding in some areas in the city,” the resolution read.

The City Council emphasized the need to repair manholes for the safety of the constituents, especially this rainy season.
