The Manila city government is nearly finished with upgrades to the Gat Andres Bonifacio Memorial Medical Center in Tondo, giving Manileños better access to quality health care.

“I want every person in this city to have access in health care. To make this a reality, we have this program of upgrading and modernizing the health facilities of the GABMMC,” Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada said Tuesday.

“I believe that a good government should and must ensure that its citizens will receive quality care and invest our resources in people—through expanded health cares and improve medical services,” he added.

Estrada said with the city-owned hospital’s new facilities, city residents are going to be able to access improved services with its 150-bed capacity in District 1.

The mayor said almost the entire hospital has been renovated with the provision of new hospital equipment, including the patient wards, private rooms, the outpatient department, its laboratory and blood bank, the emergency room, pharmacy and records section, admitting and billing section, social service office, chapel, and the newly renovated Manila Eye Center.

“This is one of the first milestones in our journey to better meet the health care needs of our community,” Estrada said.

The Eye Center has new state of the art equipment to better serve Manilenos and diagnose and treat different eye diseases.

The center offers various tests such as visual acuity test; eye examination with computerized refraction; fundoscopic examination; indirect ophthalmoscopic examination; color vision test; cataract screening; glaucoma screening; and biometry.

The center, with its highly skilled and certified specialists, also offers incision-less cataract surgery and other operations for the eyes, all free of charge to the patients in line with Mayor Estrada’s mission “Bata’t Matanda Alaga sa Maynila!”

The ENT Center has also undergone major renovation and expansion and has new machines for newborn hearing test. New video endoscopy equipment to diagnose and treat diseases of the nose and throat will arrive soon.

A new building for the TB-DOTS (Tuberculosis-Direct Observed Treatment Services) Center was constructed in 2014 and accredited by the Department of Health to provide treatment for Pulmonary Tuberculosis.

“We believe that we are on the right track in investing on the health care of Manila residents. This investment is part of an effort to bring quality medical services to the community,” said Estrada.

The GABMMC also offer Specialty Services which include:

Adult Medicine – internal medicine, gastroenterology, cardiology, pulmonology, diabetic clinic, nephrology, infectious diseases, and dermatology;

Pediatrics – general pediatrics, pediatric cardiology, pediatric pulmonology, pediatric nephrology, neonatology, and pediatric hematology;

It also has a dental clinic, a Radiology (X-ray and CT scan) department, ultrasound laboratory services and blood station.

“All available services are free of charge, with priority given to emergency cases and patients who are admitted in the hospital,” Estrada said.
