The City Government of Muntinlupa has partnered with The Birthright Educators Foundation Inc., a special education school, for the implementation of Community Based Rehabilitation to Persons with Disabilities living in the city.

The SPED school has the capacity to transfer knowledge on CBR, a World Health Organization-program to enhance the quality of life for people with disabilities and their families through meeting their basic needs and ensuring their inclusion and participation.

Muntinlupa Mayor Jaime Fresnedi and The Birthright Educators Foundation Inc. executive director Miriam del Rosario led the signing of a memorandum of agreement during the City’s PWD Action Planning Workshop last March 20.

TBEFI will be providing technical assistance to the local government for the application of CBR programmes in mainstreaming of disability in development initiatives.

The SPED school shall also provide consultancy for trainings on Understanding Disability and Roles of Parents in the Rehabilitation, Home Program Management for Child Development and Therapy, Leadership Training, Intervention Planning and Home Program Management for Child Development, among others.

The local exec advocates the empowerment of people with disabilities and their families by promoting their inclusion and participation in development and decision-making processes.

Muntinlupa City shall also soon have its Persons with Disability Affairs Office in accordance with the Magna Carta for Persons with Disability.

Muntinlupa Public Information Officer Tez Navarro said the creation of Muntinlupa City PDAO is already in the third reading of the City Council.

She added that the institutionalization of a special agency for PWDs will enhance the local government’s services in addressing the concerns of persons with disabilities.
