QUEZON City Police District Chief Supt. Guillermo Eleazar on Tuesday sacked the commander of Police Station 5 in Fairview when one of his rookie policemen was found positive for illegal drug use.

Chief Supt. Oscar Albayalde of the National Capital Region Police Office backed Eleazar’s recommendation to relieve Supt. Tomas Nuñez and Sr. Insp. Danilo Songalia of the Drug Enforcement Unit of Station 5 from their posts.

The relief was part of command responsibility and the existing “one-strike policy” for commanders who would be found remiss in their duties and responsibilities, Eleazar said.

He warned he would deal with other erring police officers accordingly.

On Feb. 19, the QCPD conducted a surprise drug test on 331 personnel, most of them assigned to anti-narcotics duties, at Camp Karingal as part of Eleazar’s “internal cleansing.”

PO1 Gabby Tumaliuan Bulan was found positive for illegal drug use.

Supt. Francisco Supe said Bulan was positive for  drug use after a confirmatory test.

As a standard procedure, Bulan was transferred to the District Headquarters Support Unit and is now under restrictive custody.

Meanwhile, Eleazar spearheaded yesterday’s initial coordinating conference with the city’s Commission on Elections officials in line with the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections set on May 14.

He said they mapped out security plans and preparations for the upcoming local polls, such as the establishment of checkpoints to be manned by our policemen and other auxiliary forces from the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
