Joy: Exclusive health clinics for QC women

QUEZON City Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte on Sunday said she wants to put up community health clinics exclusive for women to ensure they get the best health care from the city government.

She said there are certain instances preventing women to go to all-gender health clinics out of fear or embarrassment.

“Let’s admit it, sometimes we’re  too shy to go the doctors to consult our health issues, especially when it comes to reproductive health so I came up with this idea of ‘women only’ health clinics,” she added.

In time for the celebration of March as the National Women’s Month, she said if possible, these women health clinics must also be staffed by women doctors and nurses to make the patients more comfortable and open in seeking medical help.

Such special health clinics  would be dedicated to treating common women illnesses such as ovarian, cervical and breast cancers; reproductive health issues and sexually transmitted diseases, she added.

“There are times we are embarrass to go to a health clinic to seek consultation, for example, for our irregular period. This is an important health concern because this condition is indicative of cancer,” she said.

“We also have to address the situation of economically deprived women who cannot afford quality healthcare and social services, which make them more susceptible to poor health,” she added.
